Packaging and shipping

The box is part of the buying decision

Packaging affects shelf fit, protection, carton math, markings and the shipping conversation. Put the pack direction in the first brief so the quotation can answer the right question.

Packing checklist

The box is part of the buying decision

Packaging changes shelf fit, protection, carton math, marks, language, perceived value and the shipping conversation. Put the pack direction in the first brief so the quotation can answer the right question.

  • Retail package and inner protection
  • Carton dimensions, case pack and marks
  • Artwork, barcode and language direction
  • MOQ by product and packaging route
  • Destination port, timing and shipping terms

Commercial impact

Four pack decisions that can change the quote

Discuss these before a model is treated as final.

01

Retail format

Window box, closed box, display box or a simpler route changes materials, protection and artwork.

02

Case pack

The number of units per carton affects storage, freight math, pallet planning and replenishment.

03

Artwork

Logo, color, language, barcode, warnings and insert version should match the approved model.

04

MOQ

Product MOQ and packaging MOQ may not be the same. Confirm the production route in writing.

Packaging lesson

A retail box is also a logistics decision

Years of product conversations have made one point clear: packaging is not the last layer added after the model is chosen. It affects protection, print, carton volume, warehouse handling, shelf presence and the information a buyer must approve.

A useful pack brief therefore names the product version, accessories, market language, case pack, carton marks and target ship window. It gives the team a chance to compare standard and private-label routes before materials are ordered.

  • Keep the product reference and artwork version together.
  • Ask for case-pack and carton data before freight planning.
  • Treat language, warnings and instructions as part of the product review.

Packaging FAQ

Why start packaging before the shortlist is closed?

Can we use a standard box first?

Often, but confirm the product fit, accessories, protection and channel. A standard pack is still a project decision.

Does a new box always require a higher MOQ?

Not always, but artwork, print method and material orders can affect the route. Ask for the impact rather than assuming.

Should carton information be in the RFQ?

Yes. Destination, target quantity, case pack preference and ship window make the shipping conversation more realistic.
